Covid-19: Police nab thief who burgled students’ hostels of Ignatius Ajuru University, Port Harcourt

By Eric Olusesan

Police have arrested one among two thieves who were caught stealing in the Ignatius Ajuru University Of Education located at Iwofe in Port Harcourt in Rivers State, while students are on forced vacation over Covid-19 lockdown.

The thieves break into the hostels of students who are on forced vacation due to COVID-19 lockdown and started stealing properties like, provisions and appliances. Among the stuffs are indomitable, tea, electric iron etc.

They were later confronted by the school security and one of them miraculously escaped but one was caught and he was handed over to the police Operation sting division in Rivers State.

Most of the items stolen where recovered because they couldn’t run with such amount of load and hence they had to give it up so as to save their life.

They haven’t been identified as students of the University yet, as investigation is still on going in the police station.

Maybe the robbers felt that since the school was on lockdown it would be the best time to steal and enjoy a comfortable get away but that wasn’t the case.

Some say, it might as a result of hunger due to the lockdown a lot of people have found it difficult to secure a good meal, the government on the other hand has done nothing about it.

The School Security invited the Police in Rumuolumeni who arrived with vehicles marked with “Operation Sting “to carry the stolen items, as exhibits and the suspected thief.

At the time of filing this report, our Correspondent had not gotten the official reactions of the Police Command.
