RIVERS CRISIS: Rivers council wants attack on Hausa community probed

The Rivers State Council of Islamic Affairs has called on the police and other security agencies to investigate Sunday attack on some Hausa residents in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state by unknown gunmen.

This was as the police said some persons had been arrested in connection with the attack.

The spokesman for the Islamic council and Chief Imam of Mile One Dioubu Central Mosque, Murtala Bamidele, who made call during a chat with our correspondent in Port Harcourt, said the attack was uncalled for.

Bamidele said it was not the first time the Hausa residents were being attacked.
He said, “We have asked our members to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands. But we appeal to the police and other security agencies to investigate and fish out those behind the attack.”

The spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni said those arrested were helping the police in their investigation.

Omoni said, “We have made some arrests. I can’t say how many now. They are with us and helping us in our investigation. Our men have been deployed there and calm has returned.”
