Presidential task force storms Aso Rock hours after Abba Kyari tested positive for COVID-19

Three members of staff to the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

A presidential source confirmed the development.

Meanwhile, all the aides at the Vice President’s wing, with the exception of his media aide, did not turn up for work.

A source said the VP reported late to work Monday afternoon, unlike his usual practice.

Most of his aides had face masks and hand gloves on when they came to work on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Villa is on a gradual lockdown as nonessential staff have been asked to stay home.

The Presidential Task Force on the control of coronavirus has inspected the office of the Chief of Staff to the President Me Abba Kyari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Presidential Task Force, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, arrived at the Presidential Villa Tuesday afternoon.

The team, made up of ministers and health experts, spent about 10 minutes inspecting the Chief of Staff’s office.

The team declined to make official comment on what happened at the State House, saying Nigerians should await official communication.

However, Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, told journalists said the team would not mention names in its current investigation.

“We don’t mention names in carrying out this responsibility. It’s a global practice so you don’t expect us to mention any name to you,” he said.

Also speaking, Secretary to Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha advised journalists to imbibe the culture of wearing face masks to protect themselves from the coronavirus.

“You people should start wearing face mask please. I can see that you are not taking this thing serious. Wear face masks please. It is not a joke,” he said.
