Contempt Of Court: That Correspondents’ Chapel Rivers NUJ Public Lecture As Ernest Chinwo Defies Court Process Again

Contempt Of Court: That Correspondents’ Chapel

The ongoing court process at National Industrial Court of Nigeria Port Harcourt Judicial Division has been breached again as the self imposed Chairman Ernest Chinwo has defied the admonition by late Justice Ibrahim Auwal on February 12th 2018 when he warned that all parties involved in the Election trial before his court should maintain the peace until the determination of the substantive case before it. But in contempt of the court process which will continue its sitting on 4th December, 2018 at Court no. 2 National Industrial Court of Nigeria Port Harcourt Division now with Honourable Justice Ogbaji presiding Ernest Chinwo a defendant has gone ahead to organize 2018 Press week with public Lecture titled “Promoting security In 2019 Elections: The Role of The Media” with King of Bonny HIS Eminence Edward Asimini William  Dappa Pepple III as the Distinguished Chairman of the occasion while Key note Speaker is Barrister Ledum Mitee.

In a reaction to the contempt of Court by Ernest Chinwo and his cohorts, a team of progressive journalists and members of Correspondents’ Chapel loyal to Akpekwu Christopher Imbufe a contender to the post of Chairman of the chapel and the Legacy team leader, in a Press Release said “Arising from a Port Harcourt based Radio News as aired by Rhythm  93.7 Fm Station that the erstwhile Chairman of the Correspondents’ chapel Nigerian Union of Journalists Rivers state Council, Ernest Chinwo is going to hold a Public Lecture titled “Promoting security In 2019 Elections: The Role of The Media” anchored on Free and Fair Elections in Nigeria, the Legacy team wish to inform the General Public that participating in such lecture amounts to contempt of court. For avoidance of doubts, the legacy team draws the attention of the public to Suit No. NICN/PH/04/2018 which MOTION ON NOTICE brought pursuant to Order 11 Rule 2(2) and Order 14 Rules 1(1) and 2 National industrial Court Rules  2007; matters of which hearing has commenced on the 12th of February, 2018 and 31st October 2018. The third hearing comes up on the 4th of December, 2018.”

Continuing Mr. Imbufe stated that “The Legacy team holds such Public Lecture particularly on the subject matter of Free and fair election by Ernest Chinwo as the highest form of absurdity and hypocrisy when he, himself is not an Apostle of free and fair election as he favours a garrison regime which, hoodwinked, arm twisted and shot him to power at the chapel level of the Nigerian Union of Journalists-NUJ Rivers state Council. Chinwo , who has served a mandatory six (6) years made up of two  3-years per term in office sees nothing wrong to perpetuate himself in office at all cost but wants a person of such a high pedigree as Barrister Ledum Mitee to sit at his Court of ignominy and lecture on Free and fair election in Nigeria. Expected in this Public Lecture are high personalities in Rivers state including the Governor of Rivers State Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike; that we hasten to warn, Ernest Chinwo pedigree of Election hijack will rob on them all.  The Motion On Notice  attached herein speaks for itself.”
