GOV. WIKE’S 2023 PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION TEARS PDP APART WILL HE DEFECT TO APC?

By Emeka Amaefula

The current power play by the major stake holders of Peoples Democratic Party-PDP against the sitting Governor of Rivers state Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is generating concern to political pundits in the country ahead of 2023 General elections. First is the fact that no-one will dispute the roles played by the Rivers state Governor Wike is stabilizing PDP while various interests groups were instituting legal batteries of legal battling some just to destabilize the party ahead of the 2019 General elections of which they succeeded. The fact is Governor Wike is known as a key sponsor of the PDP and his words are like law that no-one shall willingly or wishfully go against any attempt usually will be met with wrath with devastating consequences.

www.towncrier.ng here reveals the real reasons the rumble in Peoples Democratic Party-PDP is enveloping the entire nation ahead of the 2023 General elections perhaps 4-years ahead now. A retrospective conversation will take you to 2018 when ahead of the National Convention of PDP Governor Wike forced his party to situate the Convention to Port Harcourt instead of Abuja against the interest of the mainstream Presidential aspirants then with Alhaji Abubakar Atiku leading his team. Wike never hid his support for the Sokoto state Governor Alhaji Tambulwal who came second at the National convention proper held at Port Harcourt.

Governor Wike’s disagreement over the emergence of House of Representatives minority Leader Ndudi Elumelu against his decision of having his kinsman, Ogundu Kingsley Chinda as Minority Leader which he imposed on the PDP national stakeholders. And he, Rivers state Governor ignoring the probe of the process that led to the emergence of Ndudi Elumelu as Minority leader, describing the investigative panel of 5-man committee as corrupt and worst panel to be set-up by PDP in its lifetime.

All these masquerading rhetoric, www.towncrier.ng gathers are aimed on how best to stop the Rivers state Governor’s 2023 presidential ambition as he already has in his kitty, the Chairmanship position of his party, Prince Uche Secondus, who hails from Rivers state and his insistence to have Minority Leader of Federal House of Representatives of Nigeria Ogundu Kingsley Chinda also a fellow Ikwerre kinsman, is to consolidate his powers and grips of PDP as it will go a long way in compensating him in his investment in sponsoring Aminu Tambulwal as a presidential candidate of PDP in 2019 Presidential election and for retaining the party while others fled when their contributions were most needed. The consequences of which will be to push his ambition of contesting 2023 presidential election an easy ride. But the agitation by Board of Trustees-BoT of PDP and National Working Committee-NWC pitch him against his set-out goals of 2023 and the main question on the lips of main political pundits is will Governor Wike defect to All Progressives Congress—APC before 2023 as that will offer him clear ground for realizing his 2023 Presidential ambition of having a Southern politician as Presidential candidate and eventual winner to him may be probably achievable under APC since the former Akwa Ibom state  state governor Godswill Obot Akpabio then a formidable frontline member of PDP prior to the 2019 general elections defected to APC and today he emerged as Sitting Minister of Niger Delta Affairs having lost his bid to return to the Senate under APC Akwa Ibom ticket in 2019.
