The Mafias Behind Governor Fubara Steady Rise

By: Charles Bermercide, PH

Even though, the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has recently stated that he may likely give off his position if that will entrench peace to the state; there are millions of those especially amongst his loyalists that are not comfortable with the statement as the political wrangling between those loyal to his political godfather continued.

Outside the political wrangling in the state, there are strong men behind the steady rise of the incumbent Governor of Rivers state. These men have been the engine room of this administration and the mafias that backs his administration even in the rough political and cold fighting rocking the oil-rich state.

Recall that in October 2023, 26 lawmakers representing various constituencies in the oil-rich state served the Governor an impeachment notice that would have culminated in his exit but the move backfired, following Hon. Edison Ehin spontaneous resistance. The state had witnessed several protests and counter protests which resulted in the burning down of a session of the state Assembly complex and consequent demolition by the action of the state government.

The intervention of Hon. Ehin also raised several like minds that were against the operations and styles of the administration of the erstwhile Governor Barr. Nyesom Wike who is now the Minister in charge of the F.C.T. under the All Progressive Congress (APC) led Federal Government.

However, many things played out and the mafias behind the system began to show their styles about how the system is controlled and moving to oiled each side in order to steady the political system for the incumbent.

Those behind these moves has been the incumbent Secretary to the state Governor Hon. Tammy Danagogo who was equally part of the administration of the erstwhile governor Barr. Nyesom Wike.

Chief David Briggs, a former commissioner in the administration of Dr. Peter Odilli and Sir Pawariso Horsfall also a former commissioner , Dr. Abiye Sekibo and many others that were very prominent in the Odili led political empire of eight years.

The likes of Dr. Abiye Sekibo surfaced just a week ago during the coronation ceremony of HRM. King Ateke Tom at Okochiri in Okirika Local Government area.

Meanwhile, the name of the political godfather of those backing governor Siminalayi Fubara was somehow hidden due to the closeness in which Dr. Peter Odili was to the former administration. But, we learnt that event changed when the F.C.T Minister works out on some prominent Rivers big boys who have advise the F.C.T minister to allow the incumbent to run his administration the way his comfortable with.

Since then, the cold war among these silent mafias blew open and the political centre could not hold again.
