Ameaechi’s Allegation against me is baseless-Boma Iyaye

Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Honourable Boma Iyaye said Ameaechi’s Allegation against him is baseless. He has reacted to reports in some sections of the media that he misappropriated the sum of two billion naira (N2 billion) earmarked for the construction of a Sports Academy in the State in 2014.

In the said reports, former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi who made the allegations also called for the immediate arrest of Hon Iyaye for the misappropriation of the said funds.

Honourable Iyaye described the allegations as baseless and unsubstantiated as the award for the said contract was done in 2014.

He further noted that it was impossible for him (Hon Iyaye) to be responsible for the supervision of the said project since he was not saddled with the administration of Sports in Rivers State during the period.

Hon Iyaye then urged former Governor Amaechi to direct the outburst of misappropriation of funds to Hon Fred Igwe who served as Rivers State Sports Commissioner during the period.

He also wondered why former Governor Amaechi failed to take immediate steps to ensure that the said project was not implemented or that those who failed in this regard were not brought to book during the said period in which he served as Chief Executive of the State.
