Court bars Wike from arresting Members of Atiku Campaign Council

Members of the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Council in Rivers State have secured a restraining order from a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt against the Rivers State Government, security agencies from arresting and intimidating them

Justice A.T Ibrahim issued the order against the Police, and Department State Security, DSS, following a motion exparte filed by leaders of the Campaign Council in Rivers state.

The Applicants including: former National Chairman of PDP Uche Secondus, Senator Lee Maeba, Chairman of the Council,Dr. Abiye Sekibo, Director-General of Council who is also former Transportation Minister, Senator Thompson George Sekibo, Senator of Rivers East, Sir Celestine Omehia,(derobed former Governor).

Others include: Austin Opara, former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Chinyere Igwe, member of House of Representatives, Tamuno Sisi Gogo Jaja, immediate past Commissioner for Water Resources and Dr Leloonu Nwibubasa Spokesman of the Council among others accused the Rivers state government of harassing and intimidating their supporters.

The High Court Judge, Justice Ibrahim ordered the government and other respondents to maintain status quo until the determination of the suit.

Our Correspondent reports that there has a toxic political relationship with the state Governor Nyesom Wike and his administration.

The Spokesman of of the Council, Dr. Leloonu Nwibubasa, has accused the state Governor of using the instrumentality of security agencies to arrest 35 members of the Atiku supporters who were heading for a political meeting in Port Harcourt. They were later profiled by the Police and 21 of them were charged to a Magistrate Court and were later remanded in prison for suspected cultism and Cult related activities.
