I Am Not Bothered About Structures- Rivers Labour Candidate

…The Poor Masses, Unemployed, Pensioners  etc Are My Structures

Comrade Beatrice Itubo, arguably the biggest catch in the history of the Rivers state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),and perhaps  the most controversial candidate ahead of the 2023 general election over  her roles on some critical labour matters in the state with the government.

She has weathered on the murky side of politics in labour related matters and is now taking a shot to become the first woman governor in Rivers state if elected. She was elected the first woman chairperson in the labour union in the state, a record she has broken thus far.

Comrade Beatrice Itubo, is called an indomitable woman leader and she is not afraid to dare even where some men couldn’t dare. She had gainfully been elected in several levels of the Nigeria labour movement and even in the Nigeria medical union where she belonged.

She is a member of a renowned regional group- the Ijaw National Congress, (INC), and she is ready to wrest power with over twenty political parties that will be contesting ahead of 2023 general election in the country.

In an interview with her recently in Port Harcourt about the situation of things in the labour union especially on her party structures? Comrade Itubo, however, described the issue as laughable, adding that the current position of things in the state is about the people and not about structures.

The frontline woman leader maintained that she is concerned about how she would make a change of course saying this has informed her steps into politics because of the suffering and hunger faced on a daily basis by the poor masses which she added is her structure.

“I don’t understand what people call structure. Our structures are the poor masses. The unemployed, the graduates with good grades who cannot secure a good means of life. The downtrodden and to make the system work” she said.

Mrs.Itubo insisted that her step into politics is to bridge the gap between the rich and poor in the state, adding that she was not threatened in any way about the issue of godfatherism, insisting that her party is going to win the 2023 election in the state with God on her side.

On the issue of conflict in the union? The NLC chairman, however, dismisses any issue of conflict in the Union, stressing that she is still at her best and even stronger when it comes to labour matters in the state.

Speaking on the sympathy strike embarked by the union, Mrs. Itubo, said the strike was a signal and in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Nigeria Universities, ASUU and students because of the failed system of our education.

Asked on the continued closure of the union secretariat in Port Harcourt, the front line labour leader insisted and jokingly said “because some persons are afraid of my standing.

Asked if she was not threatened by the use of a court process against some political parties as alleged in some quarters? She responded thus: “We are not afraid of the court because we have our legal team, but we play by the rules and the laws of the land” She said.

Asked if she was not bothered as a woman in the race? She further responded thus: “I am not afraid because gender is not an issue nor it is a barrier, insisting that she is the first woman to have won election in the history of NLC in the state and other of her union.

On the issue of Upland and Riverine Dichotomy, she said if elected that the issue will be looked at holistically but argued that such issue arises because of marginalization, but promised to bring a paradigm shift in order to make the system work to address the issue.
