Kano APC: APC Picks Deputy Governor, Nasir Gawuna As Preferred Candidate To Replace Governor Ganduje

By Yakubu Anas

Born on 6 August, 1967 in Nassarawa Local Government of Kano State to a re-known Islamic Scholar Malam Yusuf and was brought up under serious discipline that entails commitments to learning and respect for everyone.

Gawuna attended Gawuna Primary School, Kano in 1973 and passed out with his First School Leaving Certificate in 1979.

He then proceeded to Government Secondary School, Gwaram in 1979 and later to Science Secondary School, Dawakin Kudu in 1981.He graduated with the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E, O’level result) in 1984.

Between 1984 and 1985, he was at the School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, and Zaria where he obtained his Advanced Level Certificate, before gaining admission to Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto in 1985 and graduated with BSc (Honours) Certificate in Biochemistry in 1990.

Gawuna’s work experience started in 1991 at the Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre, Awkunanu in Enugu State where he did his one year compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

He was Assistant Electoral Officer at the National Electoral Commission between 1992 and 1994.

In 1995, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna worked as Laboratory Technologist at the Hospital Management Board for nine years.

In 2004, he delved into active politics seeking elective position and was elected chairman of Nassarawa Local Government, Kano.

In the analysis of Kano politics it has been observed that if Gawuna is given the ticket for election into the office Kano state Governor he will bring hopes of unity, dexterity, democracy, creativity, economic empowerment and posterity leading to phenomenal development and sudden discovery of ways to revive a hitherto rustic Kano State.

With Gawuna the state will entered into a new world because he is believed to be a person with a strong faith in human capacity development. It is therefore obvious that the quest in some quarters to put the state in a competitive league of human development will certainly materialize.

If the state would forever pass for a revival of rural enclave and the fight for a drastic decrease in rural poverty, health challenges, lack of quality drinking water, revival of agriculture, social welfare, control and prevention of youth crime and drug addiction through a well designed and properly implemented youth empowerment in a sustainable approach and absolutely the revival of local government and pension, Gawuna bwill e tye right answer.

His political career started with Local government Chairman of a multiethnic, multi religious local government in Kano state Nassarawa on two terms where he championed free medical services for all citizens of Nassarawa Local Government when he deposited huge sums of money in all the tertiary and primary health care centres. He also championed free scholarship to all students of the Local Government. He championed reconciliation programmes as well as youth empowerment.

Gawuna also collaborated with NDLEA for the rehabilitation of drug addicts in the local government.

He provided buses to junior and senior secondary schools, built many classrooms and cottage hospitals.

Gawuna also supported the DPOs in his LG with so many logistical and welfare packages that lead to peace and crime control throughout the LG.

A critical scrutiny of the state shows that the indigenes are beneficiaries of Gawuna’s massive Human Development Initiatives which he does and mobilised his colleagues to follow suit.

When he was Chairman of Nassarawa local government, then he was the first in Kano state to be nicknamed “Maliya” meaning an ocean. It is therefore imperative to talk about the genesis of human development which is aimed at encouraging and motivating youths against social vices.

He was commissioner during the tenure of mai takalmin karfe and happened to be the singular commissioner that kept relationships with his colleagues even when they are no longer in the same party.

His sense of responsibility also include silence amidst pressure, respect for oppositions, respect for party members and other political acquaintances like me.

He respects all his former bosses Malam Ibrahim Shekarau the Sardauna of Kano under whom he served as LG Chairman and Dr Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso under whom he served as Hon Commissioner for Agriculture.

Under Ganduje he served as Hon Commissioner for Agriculture as well and toward the end of the first tenure it happened that Gawuna miraculously became the new deputy governor after the voluntary resignation of Prof Hafizu Abubakar.

While he served under Kwankwaso Gawuna has never uttered a negative word against Shekarau even now that he is working the Ganduje Gawuna has never indulge in exchange of negatives against Kwankwaso.

He kept excellent relationship with elders, ulama, business men, civil servants and politicians.

We know that a radical disposition meant the possession of qualitative leadership attributes vis-à-vis vision, charisma, competence, character decisiveness and ruthlessness, sincerity of purpose and passion for the masses, put together no candidate among all the aspirants we have seen that can compare with Gawuna.

With these endowments naturally at his disposal His Excellency Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna would channels his efforts on human capital developments (Education being the strongest pillar), infrastructure, peace and security, commerce, and innovations.

In fact Gawuna is the best candidate that would cement the differences existing among the Kano_Giant _Trios.
