Rivers State East Senatorial Election: How Allwell Onyesoh Cruised to Victory

The conduct of the Peoples Democratic Party-PDP senatorial elections for the three senatorial districts in Rivers state has been concluded and the list of winners submitted to INEC what happened at the headquarters of Rivers East Senatorial District at Port Harcourt City Council surprised many political pundits as Chief Allwell H, Onyesoh emerged unopposed as the duly elected candidate Rivers East Senatorial Zone. His popularity is well received across party lines being that he is well known for having touched many lives in Rivers state.

The Etche Local Government Area Rivers state born Politician has been a senior Lecturer, a Footballer who played Inter-Collegiate Football Competitions in Port Harcourt and beyond during his secondary education period in Old Rivers state. While at University of Jos, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, he was popular and having returned to his fatherland Old Rivers state after performing the mandatory National Youth Services NYSC, he took up appointment as Senior Lecturer at School of Basic Studies now Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnics Rumuola Road Port Harcourt. In 1998 he was elected into the Federal House of Representatives Abuja under one of the 5-political parties. In 1999 he joined Peoples Democratic Party-PDP where Dr. Peter Odili’s Restoration Team appealed to him and he was appointed Commissioner for Education and later Commissioner for Sports all from 1999 to 2007. He was appointed as Chairman Senior secondary School Management Board where over 13,000 teachers were employed during Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

The desire of Chief Allwell Onyesoh to represent his good people of Rivers East Senatorial district is based on the facts that his wealth of experience in public service must be brought to bear in helping to advance development in the Senatorial district.

Come March 2023 Allwell Onyesoh will face a hot challenger Dr. Ndubuisi Nwankwo a former commissioner for Energy during former Governor Dr. Peter Odili’s administration and All Progressives Congress APC Rivers East Senatorial District.

In Rivers South east Senatorial Districts the battle will be between incumbent Senator Barry Mpigi of PDP against Ambassador Oji Ngofa of All Progressives Congress-APC. While in Rivers West senatorial District the incumbent Deputy Governor Dr. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo of PDP against the incumbent Chairman of NIMASA Honourable Asita O. of All Progressives Congress-APC.
